Jeff Tarrant is an itinerant peddler who, finding a dog along his travels decides to make a home in the Appalachian mountains.

It’s been awhile since I’ve read this one. Very enjoyable, as all of Jim Kjelgaard’s books are. Makes me want to read another one of his books.
